Form-filling fraud

Sat 27 Oct 2007

Application fraud - where the perpetrator tells lies on application forms to obtain credit, insurance or other products - increased 23 per cent in the first nine months of 2007, according to CIFAS, the UK's fraud-prevention service.

False insurance claims also showed an increase during the period, rising 9 per cent from the same period of 2006.

CIFAS said that while identity fraud showed a slight decline, the figures overall gave cause for concern.
